Zeeland

Beaches

A typical characteristic of Zeeland are the many wooden breakwaters built to protect the beaches from storm surges. The thing we are interested in though is how these breakwaters are secured by piles of rocks leading into the sea to heads of the breakwaters. All kinds of little creatures such as crabs, prawns and small fish gather there. This is an ideal place for maritime bass.

The beaches with these wooden breakwaters go from Vlissingen/Westkapelle to Westkapelle/Dormburg.

Neeltje Jans

The isle has more to offer than the popular spots at the surge gates. The only thing is that you have to take longer walks to get there. Piles of rocks protect the shore and the bordering weed fields making this an ideal hunting ground for European sea bass. Not only that, but it is not as crowded as at the surge gates-even the bass seem to like it better here.

Important: if you plan to climb over barriers at a surge gates, be ready to pay a fine! The strong currents can be life-threatening and it is therefore forbidden to be in this area. Head all warning signs.

Oosterschelde

A natural paradise and nursery ground for fish beyond compare.

The squid spawning in April is now known to be quite a spectacle. Even bass have discovered this to be a great spawning area.

Stone piles with bordering weed fields and mussel beds make great hunting grounds.

The numerous jetties should not be ignored as great as truly spots for anglers. Just remember that the European sea bass passing by don’t stop at every jetty.
